Lewis Capaldi has released the emotional ballad The Day That I Die as part of his Survive EP.

The Scottish singer opens up in a deeply personal way on the track, expressing his fear that he “would not be here anymore.”

He sings, “On the day that I die, tell my mother I was smiling ‘cause I know that she’ll be crying.”

The Day That I Die has already brought fans to tears during Lewis’ recent live performances.

Survive also includes the moving title track, the fan favourite Something In The Heavens, and Almost, which is described as a “raw and intimate exploration of what it means to move on or at least try to.”

Lewis’ latest emotional songs arrive shortly after he hinted that his next album will have a more upbeat sound.

The chart-topping star has become known for his sombre ballads, but that may shift with the follow-up to 2023’s Broken By Desire to Be Heavenly Sent.

Speaking to Scott Mills on his BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show, he shared, “I would like to start making happy music. News flash, breaking news. Next album I am doing, it is happy. It is happy, happy stuff.”

Lewis returned triumphantly to the stage at Glastonbury this summer, two years after he had to end his set early due to struggles with Tourette’s syndrome.

The twenty nine year old singer is gearing up for a massive 2026, filled with summer shows, including a headlining performance at The Isle of Wight Festival on June 19.

Lewis will also take the stage for two nights at Dublin’s Marlay Park on June 23 and 24.

He will headline American Express presents BST Hyde Park on Saturday, July 11 and July 12.

Additional dates include Thomond Park in Limerick on June 26, Exeter’s TK Maxx Presents Live at Powderham on June 27 and June 28, and Cardiff’s Blackweir Fields on June 30 and July 1.

Also in July, Lewis will appear at the first American Express presents Roundhay Festival in Leeds on July 4.

The following month, he will perform for large crowds at Belfast Vital and at Manchester’s Wythenshawe Park.
