Billie Eilish and James Cameron have pushed back the release of their upcoming tour documentary by around two months.
The Lunch singer had initially planned to debut the 3D concert film Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour on March 20, but the veteran director has now revealed that extra time is needed as they fine tune the edit and experiment with new 3D technology, leading to a new release date of May 8.
Sharing the update on Threads, the Titanic filmmaker wrote: “We’re refining the cut; dialing in cool, new 3D tech; adding some special behind-the-scenes we know you’ll love. @hitmehardandsoftmovie will now release Friday, May 8th. Worth the wait!”
The 24 year old Grammy winner, who co directed the project alongside Cameron, first announced the film during the final stop of her tour in support of her 2024 studio album, which wrapped at the Chase Center in San Francisco in November 2025.
She later posted on Instagram: "HIT ME HARD AND SOFT: THE TOUR (LIVE IN 3D) coming to theatres on march 20th 2026 !!!! this has been one of my favorite tours everrrrrr and being able to capture it and co-direct this film with @jamescameronofficial has truly been a dream come true. can’t wait for you all to see it."
Billie had previously hinted at both the film and her collaboration with the 71 year old Avatar director.
Addressing the crowd during a show at Manchester’s Co op Live last summer, she said: “So you may have noticed that there are more cameras than usual in here.
“Basically, I can’t say much about it, but what I can say is that I’m working on something very, very special with somebody named James Cameron, and it’s going to be in 3D. So, take that as you will and these four shows here in Manchester, you and me are part of a thing that I am making with him. He’s in this audience somewhere, just saying.
“So don’t mind that, and also I’ll probably be wearing this exact outfit for like four days in a row.”
The tour itself kicked off on September 29, 2024, with an opening night at the Videotron Centre in Quebec City.
Across the run, Billie was joined by a wide range of support acts, including Nat and Alex Wolff, Towa Bird, The Marías, Young Miko, Ashnikko, Finneas, Tom Odell, Lola Young, Syd, Magdalena Bay, Yoasobi, Fujii Kaze and Men I Trust.
