Jeff Tweedy of Wilco has unveiled a tender rendition of Cameron Winter’s ‘Love Takes Miles’ to mark Valentine’s Day.
Tweedy uploaded the performance to his Substack on Saturday February 14, dedicating it to his wife Susan while the pair were apart in different countries.
In a spoken introduction shared alongside the cover, Tweedy explained that he was on tour in Paris and feeling the distance from his partner. He admitted it might seem “a little bit too on the nose” to post a song from Paris on Valentine’s Day, but said he wanted to choose something that genuinely reflected his understanding of love.
He selected ‘Love Takes Miles’, a track written by Geese frontman Cameron Winter for his 2024 solo debut ‘Heavy Metal’.
“I tried to get Susie to come and visit me on the tour in Paris, and she wasn’t having it. I think she wasn’t up for the travel…I get it,” he said. “I picked this song for Susie. It seems very true to me about how love kind of actually works.”
“I think you can feel the immediate feeling of love over and over and over again. But real love takes a lot of miles, a lot of time,” he continued. “That’s the kind of love that makes ground harder under your feet and colours stronger. It’s just not the same thing as puppy love.”
He also reflected on the depth of the songwriting, noting that it was striking for someone so young to write something so thoughtful. Tweedy encouraged listeners to explore more of Cameron Winter’s work, both solo and with Geese.
To close the message, Tweedy praised Geese for their recent appearance on Saturday Night Live and mentioned that his wife had said she “would have loved to have booked them at Lounge Ax” in Chicago. The couple previously co owned the famed venue before it shut its doors in 2000.

The performance arrives after Tweedy joined Hayley Williams, Waxahatchee, Weyes Blood, Rufus Wainwright, Maren Morris and others as surprise guests during Bleachers’ set at Newport Folk Festival 2025.
Later in the year, Tweedy announced a new triple solo record titled ‘Twilight Override’. Released in September, it became his fifth solo album and featured 30 songs that he wrote, recorded and produced himself at his Chicago studio The Loft.
He has already wrapped up a North American tour in support of the album, and his current stop in Paris forms part of his 2026 European run. Tweedy is scheduled to perform at London’s Islington Assembly Hall on Friday February 20, with remaining tickets available here.
Meanwhile, Geese continue to build on a huge 2025, a year that saw their latest album ‘Getting Killed’ earn a five star review from NME and later claim the top spot in the publication’s 50 best albums of the year list.
Their single ‘Taxes’ also placed at Number Two in NME’s countdown of the 50 best songs of 2025. Among those publicly backing the band are Nick Cave, King Princess and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.
Last month, Cameron Winter performed a surprise charity set under the name Chet Chomsky, and the momentum shows no sign of slowing. Geese have already been longlisted for the BBC Radio 1 Sound Of 2026 and confirmed for Reading & Leeds.
