DJ Akademiks kept poking fun at Ebro Darden on social media Monday while reacting to a clip of the former Hot 97 personality promoting his Apple Music One program. The back and forth picked up after Ebro revealed last week that Hot 97 had officially ended his long running show, “Ebro In The Morning.”
“N***a lost one job and showed up to the other job extra early.. making infomercials in the lobby while waiting to clock in,” Akademiks wrote on X. “Got his corporate voice on.. he finally learned he just a fckin worker not no boss. I feel u bro … can’t get fired twice in a week.”
This was not the first time Akademiks took shots at Ebro recently. He had already mocked him while discussing Ebro’s online exchange with Drake. The Toronto rapper dropped an axe emoji in response to news that “Ebro In The Morning” had been canceled, which led Ebro to label Drake as “right wing.”
“The lack of self-awareness from Ebro is astounding,” Akademiks said during a livestream as he revisited the situation. “The fact that Ebro would call someone else a hater. Go look back at the history. I've never hated on Ebro.” Addressing the “right-wing” label, he added, “So Ebro now feels like me, Drake, Trump, and MAGA felt he was too powerful at Hot 97.” Akademiks then joked about Hot 97’s YouTube viewership and sarcastically claimed he felt “threatened.”
Ebro Darden confirmed the end of his morning show in a post on X last Friday. “It's done. More to come,” he wrote without offering further detail.
He later expanded on the situation in a video filmed from his car, where he suggested new ownership at Hot 97 wanted him sidelined. “Bro’s a casino owner. You know the three licenses they got in NY for the casino? The guy that owns the sht owns one of the casino licenses,” Darden said, according to Complex. “He gotta raise half a billion dollars. They need my sht talking, anti-Netanyahu, anti-government, progressive sh*t out of the way, bro. They need me out of the way.”
