Olivia Rodrigo has shared her disbelief at spending time with Harry Styles after once filling notebooks with One Direction fan fiction at school.
Now aged twenty two, the pop star has long described herself as a proud Directioner, and she recently experienced a surreal moment when she ended up hanging out with the thirty one year old singer she used to daydream about.
Speaking on the Music Makes Us podcast, the Good 4 U singer said: “I used to write One Direction fan fiction when I was in elementary school.
“Many years later, I hung out with Harry Styles, and we got tea, and we walked around.
“And I got home, and I was like, ‘What the f***?’ I feel like I, like, wrote that in a fan fiction, and now I’ve lived it. That is so crazy how that can happen in your life.”
Olivia also joked: “I remember being like, ‘If I told 10 year old Olivia, she’d be like, shut the f*** up, you’re lying.'”
Elsewhere in the conversation, she revealed that she often turns to Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill whenever she needs an emotional boost.
The singer explained that she has a deep connection to the 1995 album, which includes tracks like Hand in My Pocket and Ironic, saying it reminds her of “what [she’s] trying to go after” creatively and personally.
When asked which album helps her feel grounded again, Olivia told the Music Makes Us podcast: “Honestly, I listen to [Alanis Morissette’s] Jagged Little Pill when I'm feeling, like, I don't know what to say or like, who am I?
“For some reason that album, just like, every part of what makes a human being a human being, it feels like it's encapsulated in that record.”
The singer, who has risen rapidly to global fame in recent years, said the album captures a full spectrum of emotion.
Olivia added: “I f****** love that album as everyone on the planet does but I just think, it reminds me what I'm trying to go after.”
