Alessi Rose says Lorde is her biggest inspiration, describing her music as “poetry” during her childhood.
The 22-year-old indie-pop singer, who has been writing poetry since she was 13, is quickly becoming an artist to watch thanks to her bold lyricism that is starting to capture attention throughout the music world.
Alessi, who introduced herself in 2023 with her first release ‘say ur mine’, which gained more than 40,000 views in its opening week, credits pop innovators like Kate Bush and Lorde as her long-standing artistic influences.
Speaking exclusively to Bang Showbiz at Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball with Barclaycard on Saturday night (06.12.25) at the O2, she said, “I think Lorde was the first person I really connected with, a pop star whose music felt like poetry to me, and I think that is something really special.
I have songs that are written to be very punchy and feel like the pop tracks you hear on the radio, but others are much harder to unpack.”
The rising artist, who released her first EP Voyeur in July, a project known for its emotional honesty and unfiltered lyrics, says expressing feelings and embracing vulnerability plays a key role in her work.
She added, “I think a huge part of why I found the audience I have is because I share everything that happens to me, the ordinary moments and the difficult ones. And since I am a young girl and a lot of my listeners are also young girls, they relate to the same experiences.
Vulnerability is also how I work through the things that bother me. If I did not write about the moments that make me uncomfortable, I could never really make sense of them.”
Rooted in authenticity, Alessi admits she never wanted to emerge as a perfectly polished pop act.
She said, “I never had the luxury of being a polished pop star right from the start, and I think people have liked that. They see the process and how everything comes together, and that feels important.
Also, I would not want to be perfect right away. This is my first time going through all of this. I did not grow up in a family that worked in music or played instruments.
I am experiencing everything for the first time, enjoying the journey, and getting better every day, and I think that is inspiring for anyone who wants to be in music or in any creative field. Because if you are not improving, you are staying still, and that means you are not doing anything. I think it matters to be yourself, and there is nothing wrong with not being perfect from the start.”
